Thank you to the publishers for sending me a copy of Angel Maker through NetGalley. I received an audiobook copy in return for an honest review. I genuinely enjoyed this book. The narrator did an awesome job portraying all of the different POV, and the story never had a dull moment. It was very thought provoking and fun. I enjoyed trying to figure out the next twist/turn. The story was very unique and interesting, it showed the contrast between good and evil well and did so in such an interesting way. If had me thinking a lot and for that reason, I gave it 4 stars!

3.5
Overall, a really good book. Unlike most reviews, the pace was not a problem to me and I actually enjoyed putting together all the details from so many different characters. But the ending was lacking something to make all the effort worthwhile.

*3.5 stars*

This was an atmospheric thrilling mystery. Alex North’s new novel intertwines multiple families and stories into a gripping murder mystery.

Because there are so many interconnected stories woven together, it does require more attention than the average thriller. I wish the book had been longer, to be able to delve deeper into everyone’s stories, but I enjoyed the way everything came together in the end. If you like books with big casts of characters and large overarching puzzles that come together I think you would enjoy this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ALC of this work. All opinions in this review are my own.

Not a fan. Too much going on. Too many attempts to “be clever” and suspenseful, when the overall plot could have done that. After the prologue…. I was HOOKED, and then he never returned to that thought process or idea. I would like the book to be rewritten from the prologue. It would be FANTASTIC. As it stand…… AWFUL.

I have never read a book by North before.
This book was dark, twisty and engaging. It did move mostly fast paced for me.
There are multiple perspectives and timelines that weave together and you can slowly puzzle things out. Which I do enjoy when I get to discover and connect things on my own, but if you don't have full attention you can easily get confused. Many times I had to pause and try to remember who the person was, it got to a point that it was hard to keep track of names.
I also don't think the title quite fits bc "the angel maker" isn't really involved as a character or the main plot much. It's spoilers to delve more into why.
The ending wasn't quite as satisfying, it didn't really tie things up in a neat bow.
Overall, it's a fast and intense read. I enjoyed it and I'd like to try the other books this author has written bc I did enjoy the writing style.

I listened to this book on audio, which is a format I use frequently. In some instances with audio I find it difficult to keep track of a back & forth timeline. That was the case with this story, as well as, some confusion in following the character names and nick names. I may have to try again with the book in hand for easier reference

A rough 3.5 stars.

Let me preface this with the fact that this is my first Alex North book and I’ve heard nothing but good things. I went into this thinking it would live up to the hype of The Whisper Man and The Shadows in the sense that it would be disturbing and chilling. However, this was very much not the case. The beginning had me immediately sucked in, but that was about it. This felt like a family drama with a little bit of a twist and barely any “dark and thrilling” essence.

The story was good, the characters felt overwhelming and messy, and the one thing that took my interest by a chokehold wasn’t even delved into. A decent read, but not inspiring much interest in the others.

Thank you Celadon and NetGalley for the ARC.

I've had a thing - maybe you have too - where I just can't focus on reading the way I used to. I have tons of books to read, and I'll get like maybe 10% into them, and then I lost interest.

So chalk one up for The Angel Maker, which I did finish. It moved so quickly I probably could've read it in one go.

And as far as creepy thrillers with possible supernatural goings-on go, this is pretty good. Interconnected stories, a possible prophetic book, evil serial killers, etc. But too many dangling threads go unexplored. Even the book's title and ultimate meaning is mentioned only in passing.

I'll give it 3 stars because I actually got through the whole thing, hoping my questions would be answered.

Checked it out based on a review on NPR. Not exactly sorry I read it, but it was...not good. But I finished it, so I don't know what that says about me.
