Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself
by Kristin Neff
This book was transformative. The author explained in detail the power of self-compassion. Why it’s important, essential, how it can better our lives, and then explained ways to show it to yourself and the way our own self-compassion positively affects those around us. There are so many amazing tools and strategies that I will use moving forward.
There were a couple of things though that brought me out of the book a bit. The author often had sections where she talked about her own experiences, yet to me those experiences were very unrelatable and I think sometimes became more of a distraction to the main message than examples. Also the frequent bible quotes made the book feel more religious and I felt disconnected. Lastly, some of the people she quoted maybe should have been left out to strengthen her message (Woody Allen comes to top of mind).
Overall a transformative and incredible guide to showing yourself love and compassion and warmth, especially in times when we need it most.
