Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor

informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.0

Breathe through your nose, not your mouth. Yet another pop-science book that I couldn’t get enough of. Breath challenges you to reflect on your own breathing and its impact of your health while offering wonderful anecdotes and fun-facts from anthropology, archaeology, biology, cardiology, nutrition, spirituality, history, movement-based philosophies and so much more. I thought I was pretty good at breathing but this book forced me to pay attention and convinced me it was worth doing so. Nestor shows how breathing impacts the shape of our skulls, our abilities to eat, sleep, and heal, on top of our mental and physical health. He speaks to experts all over the world and pits himself through grueling experiments and tries out most of the breathing techniques he describes in this book. Super fun. This is a book I was recommended and will definitely be passing it along.
