Our Year of Maybe by Rachel Lynn Solomon

4.0

Sophie and Peter have been best friends forever. Growing up across the street from each other, Sophie has been Peter's link to the outside world as his kidney disease and overprotective parents kept him more and more homebound. Now that Sophie is 18, she opts to test herself and finds she is a match. The summer before her senior year and his junior year, Sophie donates one of her kidneys to Peter. And this changes everything. Now Peter can return to school, make new friends, pursue his music with other people. These aren't the changes Sophie had hoped for though. She thought it would be the two of them, together forever. While it isn't the outcome she was looking for, it might be the one she needed, as they both take time to explore life without the other. Highly recommended for grades 9 & up.
