Although I don’t think it captures the authentic voice of a middle schooler (some phrases were clearly from an adult POV and some interactions better fit a high school kid), the author captures a trans boy living his life and going after his goals. The overall plot is not only about being trans, but also about first crushed and changes in childhood friendships.
