This book was absolutely mesmerising. I've never been so lost in time as I have in this novel. I actually purchased this sometime last year, around August and it sat on my bookshelf unread until the other day when I finally picked it up. I don't know why I put it off for so long, but my god was this perfect.
I placed myself next to Petronella in the streets of Amsterdam. The writing is breathtaking. It's not often that I can read a book set so long ago and find myself believing it, and still identifying with the characters.
I actually cancelled a trip to Sydney because I was so engrossed in this novel.
I adored this.
