This was a brilliant dark gothic fantasy. The writing is absolutely beautiful and lyrical especially with all the poetry put in. Such a different story to other fantasy I read with a very interesting magic system and history. I was on the edge of my seat at times hoping things weren't going to go how I thought. I loved the aspects of found family and all the side characters really added complex relationships to the plot. The mystery and intrigue was palpable and the romance sprinkled in was perfect, I'm so excited for the next book!
