The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
by Bessel van der Kolk
slow-paced
An interesting book with unique insights on trauma, engaging and readable. Written in a way that's accessible to the lay audience.
However, the ventures into pseudoscience territory far too often, presenting information from case studies or studies with small sample sizes and dubious methodology as known scientific facts, and sometimes presenting the author's opinions as evidence based conclusions And at times the description of traumatic events which patients experienced are described in extremely graphic detail to the point where it feels voyeuristic and exploitative

Graphic: Child abuse, Genocide, Incest, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Rape, Self harm, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Suicide, Toxic relationship, Blood, Medical trauma, Car accident, Suicide attempt, Abandonment, Injury/Injury detail
