I already found this book more exciting and intriguing than the first, but it was still missing that little 'sparkle' for me. I am definitely not a fan of Mare and find her too shallow in her emotions. Besides, I found the plot leading nowhere, and when tension finally came, it was over after 2 chapters. I also missed more of Maven in the story and realise now that he is the most intriguing character. The side characters (Shade, Farley, Cal) totally made this book good and bearable.
But why did Shade have to die? It felt totally useless in the story and then I also started losing interest. I had wanted to read more about him and Farley and Farley's grief afterwards. Besides, it also felt like Mare wasn't mourning him at all? His death passed me by at first because of this, and I had to read back .

Even if the series disappoints me somewhat so far, my interest for the next volume is piqued and I hope to find more suspense there.
