The Wife Upstairs
by Rachel Hawkins
I thought this story was ok, just ok. None of the characters were that likable and I had a hard time relating to them. They’re either scheming to get ahead, committing crimes, or lying. I also felt like some of story lines were pointless or left me with more questions. I’m not sure what was the point of going into Jane’s past but I thought it was a waste of time. I was waiting for that big ah-ha moment where everything made sense, but it never came.
I also didn’t like this sentence and it really turned me off:
“Tripp is so many ugly things—a drunk, a lech, a Republican—but murderer still doesn’t fit on him.”
I read books to escape from the realities of life. If I want to talk politics then I’ll turn the on the news or surf facebook…I took away one star from my review due to that sentence.
