The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk

informative sad slow-paced

5.0

really great and interesting book! i found it so helpful to learn all about the brain and the science behind how we hold onto trauma in various ways. i also found it really refreshing that bessel outlines so many different forms of treatment outside of traditional talk therapy and medication. i was at first a little put off because of the heavy focus on veterans, but in the epilogue bessel does get into politics and speaks against some of the systemic ways people become traumatized. kinda wish he had done this throughout the book instead of at the very end, but i'm glad he included it.
