Ugh, how I found the push-pull between Sloane and Jasper to be frustrating. I found myself constantly going between invested in these characters, to feeling annoyed with them. For starters, Sloane is cheated on by her ex-fiancè, Sterling, right before their wedding starts - why the hell is she still wearing the damn ring?
Maybe it’s that the “childhood friends-to lovers” romance trope does feel a little tired at this point too, idk?
Jasper is very controlling and domineering in the bedroom, which makes for some 🌶️🥵spicy as hell🥵🌶️ scenes. It does make me worry if he would be a controlling partner to Sloane outside of their bedroom antics though, now that he is finally getting closer to her in a more romantic way. He’s very commanding when it comes to what he wants, but also has social anxiety when it comes to other people who aren’t Sloane or his close friends and family. This can make him seem standoffish and rude, but he is still filled with past traumas, which are explored during the story.
One positive about this book though, it does make 500 pages fly by!

This was my least favourite in the Chestnut Springs series so far. Reading through the whole series with my GR/Fable friend, angelpompom! 💖
