Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker

informative reflective medium-paced

4.5

Concise and to the point.

As Walker prefaces in the opening, you can take the information in ‘Why We Sleep?’ as fuel to motivate positive life changes, or let it provide you with more reasons to lament and stress about your already shitty sleep habits imposed by society (the Industrial Revolution and its consequences etc.).

Most likely, you’re working with a mix of the two in some sort of personal mix, and you’ll be left with some rock-solid info on how out of touch we are with the mechanics and importance of some nice Zs.

While his voice is pretty clinical, and the bulk follows a format of question -> study -> applicable knowledge, Walker cranks this combo out pretty well. You're left with a fairly comprehensive spread of understanding on our common problems, and some solutions. Definitely made me reflect on plenty of past poor sleep decisions as well!

I’d recommend everyone reads this, so it seems like Walker accomplished what he set out for.
