We read and reviewed My Year of Rest and Relaxation for Episode 42 of The Bookstore Podcast. It can be heard wherever you get your podcasts.

I love this book. I thought I’d hate this book because the narrator sounded entitled, awful, and disgusting.

She is.

I still loved it. Despite not being addicted to sleeping pills (to an extent that would 100% kill a person) I still found the narrator to be relatable. It’s been a little healing, actually, to see my worst self represented in a novel. My review is not doing the nuance of My Year of Rest and Relaxation any justice, though, because while on the one hand you can read this novel as a satire of self-care culture, it is also perversely kinder than that.
