The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling

Incredible! I'm a huge chicken with horror and this was genuinely extremely scary and tense throughout, but it was also such a great character study I couldn't put it down! It also, in its description of the subjectivity of terror and the uncertainty of isolation, felt at times like a study in what it feels like to have anxiety, and I highly recommend it on that basis alone. But also it's just a real good book.
that said it comes with a bunch of trigger warnings so I wouldn't blame anyone for giving it a mess. it's very gross and features intense body horror in places, plus loss of bodily autonomy, on top of all the horrors you'd expect from a story about being trapped underground.
