A love story set against the backdrop of the Syrian Civil War. It was beautiful and heartbreaking and hopeful and sad and hard to listen to at times. This book ran the gamut of emotions. It was a book about hope amidst trauma and finding that balance between love of country and staying true to your roots while also surviving. The audiobook was excellent. I personally recommend listening to this one because the narrator gave a lot of emotion and I was able to hear the correct pronunciation of Syrian words, which I think helped me appreciate the story even more. Do not skip the author’s note at the end.
