Firekeeper's Daughter is a beautiful story about love, community and loss. Honestly, this is the best crime/thriller book I have ever read.

I learned a lot about Ojibwe culture and traditions, and the history of native americans in Canada and USA. The info was not dumped on like a bucket of water, but it was told so an idiot newbie like me could understand too.

Boulley writes her characters so good. People are not just black and white like our main character Daunis learns. They have a lot of hidden layers like onions. Half the time I was in denial, because "no way they would do that, they are so funny and kind!" But just because a person is nice to someone, doesn't always mean they are good. And bad decisions don't always mean they are a bad person. Firekeeper's Daughter understood that so well.

Also ponus points for the characters with finnish ancessory, it's always fun to see finnish characters. And also for the hockey element.
