The Upward Spiral: Using Neuroscience to Reverse the Course of Depression, One Small Change at a Time by Alex Korb

5.0

I’ve been studying psychology for five years now and been in and out of therapy for my depressive episodes (amongst others) for many more. This book is exactly the read I’ve needed: neuroscientific explanations for depression and anxiety that are simplified enough for laypeople to understand yet do not fail to depict the complexity of our neural networks. Furthermore, the book doesn’t stop at just describing all the ways in which depression works and how we have yet to fully understand them. You get TONS of practical tips that have proven effective in previous research (judge me sideways but I do love myself some evidence). These helped me tremendously already because I’ve recognised all the little things I’ve already been doing right (is this resilience?) and I now know where to start when a particular problem bothers me. I will definitely recommend this book to all my depressed friends!
