10% Happier by Dan Harris

although I initially did not enjoy all the backstory in the first half of this book, things did come together in a very satisfying way. this is one of the best books about a sceptic's journey into mindfulness. his discussion of the terrifying ten day meditation retreat struck very close to home for me and brought up a lot of nostalgia.

I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who runs hot on the anxiety spectrum. the epilogue includes a great summary of meditation technique and practice.

I particularly enjoyed some of the more recent studies Harris cites with regard to business and military meditation programs at Google and in the Marine Corps. I've always felt that PTSD and workplace burnout are both prime candidates for the healing power of mindfulness and meditation. this book has restarted my own passion for meditation and I really think it should be included in one of those "what if everybody read this book" campaigns.
