Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

4.0

This book was predictable, but also completely different. There’s a lot of discussion about tropes and often repeated things in books—however, I’m of the opinion that they fall through a completely different lens when written from an inclusive point of view. The fact that this is a twist on Cinderella with a powerhouse Black queer main character should absolutely shift the narrative from boring trope to fresh perspective.

This book was engaging, sweet, heartbreaking, and lovely. It was also a rousing smash of the patriarchy which is always an excellent idea.

I hope we see more retellings from this author and in this vein. We need more of this.
