American Royals by Katharine McGee

I HATED THIS BOOK. I also kinda liked it. But mainly I hated it. The writing style was plain bad and the plot and general vibe had too many similarities with the Selection. The cheesy moments made me want to literally shoot myself. And the characters- don't get me started on these goddamn people.
First and foremost, fuck Samantha. God, she's the stupidest, shallow, most immature, ignorant, and conceited person in the world. Oh boo hoo, I never get attention because I'm the spare. Ok? Why are you complaining? Why are you mad at your sister for being engaged to the guy you barely know but have a massive crush on? Samantha is the worst character. My hatred for her runs deep.
Daphne on the other hand is a scheming girlboss. She's awful, but she's the perfect villain. She's literally such a queen and yeah, she's done horrible things, but she has goals and fights for them even if its for the wrong reason.
Teddy is mid. He's just a nice guy. No complaints there, he knows what duty is and respects it.
Connor is boring. There is no appeal to him and he's a fool for thinking he can be with Beatrice. He's just a bad distraction and needs to get out of the way.
Nina is also incredibly boring, though she's honest about the impact that being in the public has. Breaking up with Jeff was her smartest decision- we love an aware queen! Also kudos for having to deal with Sam.
Finally, Beatrice. Ditch Connor. Follow your duties. Be the biggest literal slay queen and marry Teddy because its the right thing to do. Ignore your stupid sister's feelings because she's selfish and doesn't know whats good for the country.
So that's it. The ending was shit, but now I'm invested so I'm gonna read the goodreads summaries for the other books because I'm not wasting my time reading these books.
