It’s been 6 years since I first read The One. I was reluctant to pick it back up after all this time. But surprisingly, I enjoyed it just as much as I did then.
Yes, America is a tad bit annoying. Yes, I still don’t like Aspen. Yes, Maxon is still my amazing little cupcake despite changing his mind faster than Celeste changes clothes. But it made me love the book nonetheless.
Was it a predictable outcome? Probably yes. Was it a predictable ending? Not at all. Never not would I expect the bloodbath that was, although very rushed. Will it take me another 6 years to revisit Illea? Only time will tell. For now, I’m going to let this piece childhood sit prettily as I think about it contently.
