I absolutely loved this book! It follows Rue (the MC) on her path to embracing who she truly is to save the only home she's ever known. The pace of the book was good and it was easy to follow. I could relate to Rue as I too am the eldest child of a single parent household. So I understand the responsibility that Rue has on her shoulders. I also grew up very similar to how Rue did which made me relate even more to her.

This book is so unapologetically rich in colour and culture, I'm so glad representation is finally a priority. Growing up mixed English and Bengali, being brown skinned, I didn't have a MC hero that looked like me so the child me was bursting with happiness to finally have someone that was like me. It just took 26 years to get here.

I've never read a book where I related to almost all of it before so I'm extremely glad that I found that in this book. This is an easy 5 star book for me and I look forward to reading more of the authors work.
