This one was really incredible, heavy and leaves you with a lot to digest and think about. It has amazingly complex characters and shows so much love for its female characters. It’s psychological, reflective and encapsulates the controversy surrounding the death penalty and our fascination with serial killers. I already want to reread it and absorb more of its nuances. The variety of perspectives was used EXPERTLY here, and allowed for a perfect characterization of Ansel. I did have to set this book down a couple times because it is quite heavy, but it was really special and I’m going to be thinking about it for a long time. I’m definitely going to be checking out other novels by this author, because this was a very refreshing crime/thriller adjacent book.
