Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin

4.0

This book had been recommended to me, and I kept putting it at the bottom of my to-read pile. I was afraid it would be depressing, and the character’s anxiety disorder would be too much after the months of pandemic. I really liked this book, and liked Gilda, the main character. Although she is a mess, I could find under her many struggles, a compassion for those around her - even those she didn’t really know - a desire to eliminate sadness/pain in their lives, even denying herself in the process. The glimpse into her family of origin, and her experiences as a child made me empathize with her as a young adult. The author’s observations on the many ways people hide their truths from others was real and insightful.
