Year of the Reaper by Makiia Lucier

"There were no certainties in life except that it was uncertain."

I've been eagerly awaiting this story after reading and loving both Isle of Blood and Stone and Song of the Abyss and I was thrilled to get an early copy through Netgalley.

The writing is beautiful and the characters are messy and flawed and wonderful. There are some subtle fantasy elements that give it an extra layer and a mystery that kept me guessing. I had suspicions, but it was fun to see them all play out and what had really happened.

I loved seeing some familiar names from the Tower of Winds duology and love that Lucier is creating her own book universe. Very much looking forward to more!
