Did not finish book.

DNF at 44% ... and I honestly can't say what this book was about. I read the blurb, and yes, it sounds vaguely like what I remember, but my mind kept wandering and the story just didn't catch my interest. The character wasn't likeable, and I just struggled to get invested. I was listening to the audiobook, and the narration felt the same ... just a little blah. Not sure if that was the writing coming through. If I didn't have 1000+ books at my fingertips waiting for me, I might have pushed through to the end, but, perhaps as the title indicates, life is short so why invest time in something if you aren't enjoying it?
