Collected Stories by Gabriel García Márquez

challenging dark mysterious slow-paced

4.0

I did not enjoy this volume as much as I thought I would. I read a Marquez story in tenth grade and have loved that story ever since, but I didn’t have as much fun with the rest of the book. I think part of it is that i had more context and discussion in a classroom setting, and probably grasped the author’s purpose better. These stories are definitely well-crafted, but I think I would need to revisit them after getting an education on Colombian politics and symbology. I did really enjoy the mood of these stories, and found myself looking forward to that relaxed, detached tone with which Marques describes bizarre things.
