Rue’s life has been turned upside down. Shortly after her mother is killed by flying bullets, Rue is separated from her sister Tasha and taken by her absent father to a mysterious magical land called Ghizon. The “grays” don’t care much for Rue, her dark skin, and her half-blood status. Meanwhile, back home in inner-city Houston, TX, Rue’s little sister Tasha is danger of being swept up in gang violence targeting black kids. While trying to save her sister and her street, Rue must learn to embrace her heritage from Ghizon. A modern fantasy mixed with realistic fiction. There are lots of moving pieces, and different genre styles, a reader can get lost in the mix.
