4/5 stars - I really liked that the magic system and the writing style was different from other fantasy books that I've read & I'm excited to see what this author comes out with next!

My only complaint is how incomplete the world felt. The magic system wasn't explained super thoroughly. How did people get infected? How did they get random powers? There were 11 cards in the deck, yet we only saw maybe 4-5 in action. Why create the rest? I feel like they should've been included in the books and at some point, one character or another should've made use of them.

But a very engaging, easy read, full of banter, romance, comedy, and of course... Fairy Tales.
