As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh
5.0
If I was still teaching YA lit, this book would be at the top of the syllabus. I’d put this book up there with The Book Thief and all of Ruta Sepetys’ books about difficult parts of history (and the present).
I also loved that the author talked about the beauty of Syria and the brief glimmers of hope while not watering down any of the brutality.
