This did NOT feel like a 400+ page book. She had me HOOKED from the first pages. A immensely easy 5 stars. Salama and Kenan have my whole heart and I IMPLORE everybody to read this absolute feat of a novel. My heart was in my throat for the last quarter of it, and my gasping aloud and bursting into tears randomly should be enough to make you want to read it.

This is SUCH an important book. You NEED to read it. It’s so heartfelt and honest and hopeful and terrifying and terrible and just the most incredibly immersive story.

It covers really heavy themes, with hope and love and promise. I want to buy and reread just to highlight my favourite quotes. Zoulfa is a STORYTELLER in the biggest sense of the word. She has cemented that I will read anything she ever writes with as long as the lemon trees grow.

Wow.
