Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales

2.5

Kind of mixed feelings. I’ve loved Sophie Gonzales since Perfect on Paper, but this just didn’t hit for me. I struggled with telling the difference between Skye and Maya for half the book because the way the POVs were written was not different enough for me to understand at first. In the beginning, I hated everyone, and in the end, I hated them less but I wouldn’t call how I felt about them “liking them”. I thought the concept of this book was really neat. But what kind of a name is Jordy? And I thought the whole concept of the tv show was kind of flawed. Like what better way to get back at your cheating, misogynistic, piece of shit ex than to fall for one of his exes while on a show about him, but at the same time why would you even accept going on a show about him when you a) will not be paid, b) he’s a piece of shit, and c) you will legitimately gain nothing from it. I mean, it’s for the plot, obviously, but at the same time I feel like that is just stupid to remotely think about giving someone like fucking Jordy a chance. I also felt like even at the end of the book Skye and Maya barely knew each other and their relationship could’ve been more developed. Clearly I have a lot of opinions about this, but I don’t regret reading it 🤷🏼‍♀️
