Honestly, 'A Study in Charlotte' was one of the best modern murder mysteries I've read in a while. Though some people may criticise the author for providing Charlotte a 'too similar' voice to Sherlock Holmes, I believe that providing her with very similar characteristics to her ancestor drives the similarities between them home.
What I liked was that Charlotte was written as a quiet, introverted character who has difficulty making friends. The personality provided to her quickly becomes one of the key points of the book, where Jamie tries to befriend her, only to be shunned and avoided. I think this makes their friendship even more enjoyable to read, because despite them resenting each other at times, they still become each other's 'rock' to depend on during hard times.
I would 10/10 recommend this to anyone who enjoys murder mysteries, because this was very well written!
