Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley

5.0

“I love you … and I love myself. I want us to be healthy and strong. On our own. So that no matter what happens, whether we meet again or not.... Love means wanting you to have a good life, even if I’m not in it. And your love for me? It should be that strong, so you want that for me, too”

This was stunning and heartbreaking at the same time. Daunis’ love of her culture, her assurance of herself was so well written. While she continued to grow in herself and her community. She knew that to help her community is not as simple as a single solution devised by an outside organisation. So she takes it upon herself to help in a way that addresses the whole community not just that singe issue.

The layers and generational trauma were conveyed so well. Daunis’ spirituality was also so lovely to be a part of.
