The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid

2.0

The Wolf and the Woodsman is an atmospheric debut filled with Hungarian lore, that unfortunately left much to be desired.

This had a very strong opening and I was immediately hooked on this plot, however the pacing died very quickly after the first 50 pages and I feel like nothing happened again until the last 50 pages. Simply out there is too much book!
My interest was piqued having been pitched as similar to The Bear in the Nightingale and Spinning Silver in terms of writing- however the writing style was not even comparable with the author repeating quite a lot of the same phrases consistently throughout which became annoying.
Further disappointment came with the lacklustre “romance” which was just very stereotypical and frankly given the lack of personality for both MC’s became another aspect I didn’t care about.

Unfortunately the only thing I enjoyed was the setting, this was just one big miss for me :/
