Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka

4/5 ⭐️: evocative and heartbreaking. The story follows a serial killer, Ansel Packer, on death row. It covers the final hours of his life as he waits to die. The narrative is centred around Ansel’s three victims, and the other women in his life who have suffered because of him. In doing so, it questions our collective obsession with true crime, and the attention that killers are given over those whose lives they have taken. This really made me think! I struggled with the scenes of animal violence, but overall this is so compelling and well written.
