I would like to express one aspect about this Printz awarded book that has bothered me the most.
I was shocked when a rape scene was depicted later in the book, causing me to pause and go back to the beginning to see if their were any trigger/content warnings. I scoured the book, Titlewave and the Printz Award site and nowhere did it say anything about this scene.
I read a lot of adult romance books and it is genre standard, that if a book contains anything that might be triggering to a reader, whether that is murder, rape, suicide, drug use etc. it will be stated so that you go into the book with a knowledge of what you are reading. I was SHOCKED when I came upon all of the above mentioned topics in this book with not one trigger warning. Banned? Never! But let’s allow the reader, especially if a book like this is written for 14+, to be informed before they dive in.
