Book of Night

This book held a whole lot of potential… Sadly, it fell flat for me.
Elements were extremely intriguing- yet the plot jumped so often that it was hard to tell which parts the reader should care about. I mean, shadows who have autonomy?! Cool AF! But also, not everyone has magic? And some people do? But they don’t say what kind of magic?
This part was skimmed upon.
There’s a large emphasis on Charlie, our main character’s past, and how she got into becoming the con artist she is today. She was supposed to be the best in the game, but she kept making so many mistakes it was really hard to believe that as a reader. The romance element fell flat for me.
