I walked into this book expecting something completely different. I’m glad that misunderstanding allowed me to read a book I ordinarily wouldn’t, because this place and time is a world very removed from my own, yet the author manages to show me how familiar it is at the same time. This book opened a new door of empathy that I didn’t know needed to be unlocked, and I’m grateful for it. 

Well written, honest, brave, and scary. I hope daughters from all walks take time to read this story, and better understand what it means to be in a community after reading it.
