My thoughts immediately after starting this: I LOVE YA FANTASY. This book was great. I love the split into four parts, I love the characters and the relationships explored (the ending was bittersweet; the last line made me so sad).

I'm a little confused about some things (spoiler for this book definitely but also spoiler for Book 2 possibly??

I read The Maid and the Crocodile before starting this one and my impression was that Tar ends up with Dayo in the end but aren't they cousins?? And Dayo's ace, yes? I wonder how that'll play out. I might have just misunderstood the situation in The Maid and the Crocodile
