Wow, that was brutal.
As an ex-vangelical, raised southern and baptist, this itched at a lot of places that I didn’t realize was still tender.
This brought such intimacy to young, trans, and autistic people even as they survive such intense surroundings
The descriptions were grotesque and keeping with the horror categories and themes, but there was reverence in the gore and romance in the relationships and death.
I don’t think I’ll ever read anything like this again, mostly because of how unique and original this story became and how no one can likely create something both horrifying and beautiful as seamlessly.
