I'll Be the One
by Lyla Lee
DID NOT FINISH
While the premise of the book felt compelling, it didn't meet my expectations in either story or writing. The text felt clunky and was hard to read even while being fast paced, and the characters felt flat. Plus, as someone that has followed the K-Pop scene since 2010, it felt like a disservice to the industry and it's nuances, minimizing the Korean characters to the conservative beliefs associated to the culture. The difference in portrayal between the Korean characters and the Korean-American characters kind of came out as a American=Good Foreign=Bad situation, which i didn’t appreciate at all.
