The Circus of Stolen Dreams by Lorelei Savaryn

3.0

While I really enjoyed the concept of this book, I felt like it started to lose its footing near the end. Andrea's struggle to accept the loss of her little brother three years earlier was very sad and, at times, heartwrenching.

I loved the Circus of Dreams and all the different tents made up of various dreams, nightmares, and memories that children wished to forget. I feel like that part of the book could have been expanded upon a little more to make things interesting. Also, Andrea isn't the most likable protagonist, but she isn't insufferable.

I do think this story could have been cut down by at least 50 pages, as it starts to become boring, and the mystery behind the Sandman gets tiresome.

Where I thought the author made a terrible decision was ending the story in the way she did. This book could have been a comfort to a child/YA reader dealing with loss, and Andrea had shown so much growth throughout the book, only for it all to be for naught.

Spoiler No worries! We'll just go back in time to three years ago, and it's like none of this ever happened! While you'll get sent back to your own time, your mind will actually be YEARS older thanks to the time spent in the Circus of Dreams. I think that was a cheap ending, and I really didn't care for it.

Overall, though, I thought the book was a cool concept, and I not a terrible read. Forgettable, but not terrible.
