American Royals by Katharine McGee

Oh my god did this take me long enough.
I could blame it on the fact that I don't have a physical copy of the book, but this was... interesting.
By and large, an enjoyable read with endearing characters, but there was something missing the whole time. It felt dull, there was nothing really going on. I mean yeah, a few things happened that gave it a bit of a dramatic tone and spiced things up, but other than that it was just the typical story where you have a future queen who doesn't wanna be queen and feels trapped in a life she doesn't get to choose how to live, and her siblings (particularly, the sister), who feel like outsiders that have been living under the heiress' shadow (plus a bunch of romance drama).
The only thing "special" was the fact that the country had not a president but a king (which, of course, is not a real thing in the US). With that being the storyline, it caught my attention, sounded interesting, but I think the author didn't manage to make the most of it.
Although I have to say that halfway through
it got really interesting. I had it decided that I was not going to read the second book, but the ending left me wondering. I guess I will have to sleep on it.
