Two Twisted Crowns has all the dark, mysterious elements of One Dark Window but with the added bonus of a well developed romantic storyline (albeit between two secondary characters and not the main love interests!) The switch in narrative voices, the changing between mental and physical spaces, and the cyclical timeline are all really well written and make this a very interesting and unique fantasy read. The odd insertion of modern vernacular would still take me out of the story every now and then, but in the same way that I’m willing to overlook Taylor Swift’s reference to Twitter in the folklore bonus track, I’m willing to read the phrase, “F*king Trees!” 500 times in exchange for what is otherwise great writing.
