The writing style is absolutely captivating. But it feels like the author is trying too hard to tackle modern issues in odd setting (sexual revolution, racism, legalistic religion, women’s rights) and it just isn’t working. Every character is supposed to be mysterious, but just ends up being boring because nothing happens. Which is why I’m giving up— literally nothing is happening. Nothing I care about anyway.
And don’t get me started on that ridiculous fight scene. Soooo melodramatic.
Also, the overall story just leaves me feeling “icky.”
