Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig

4.0

I love love loved this book. It had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end just like the first book did. It was such a perfect companion to the first book and the ending was everything I could have hoped for. In line with one of the duology’s main themes, it was poetically balanced. Revenge was exacted in the best ways possible and everything was set back to how it was meant to be after 500 years of imbalance and injustice.

There were two reasons why I could not give this five stars like I did for One Dark Window. The first was that it felt unfinished. While I was reading, I caught several very obvious grammatical errors that simply should not have made it into a published book that was presumably edited and read over and over again before it was put out into the world. I’m disappointed when I see things like this and I really think publishing companies could stand to do better than this. The second was that I missed Elspeth. Not only that but I missed Elspeth and Ravyn together. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Elm and Ione, but Elspeth and Ravyn and their dynamic were the main reason I loved the first book so much. I understand why things had to be the way that they were, but their reunion in the end was so dry and lifeless. So yeah.

In the end, it was a pretty top tier book but it needed a bit of fine tuning.
