The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
by Bessel van der Kolk
DID NOT FINISH: 60%
I do not think that this book is a good book for survivors of sexual trauma to read.
For some reason, the author seems to brush away the crimes of a sexual abuser and seems to humanize them much more than survivors. Similarly, the author keeps pointing out physical beauty or traits of women survivors, which just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
This book is also not particularly scientific, it’s more pop-science. There are many other books written from the perspectives of survivors that may be of interest to other survivors to read. This is not that.
Perhaps some people may find value in this book, but it just was not for me.
