Reading this in seventh grade was absolutely pivotal for me and really formed who I am today. I’m so glad I got access to this book when I did. (I’m very grateful that my middle school library had it for I wouldn’t have been able to read it otherwise and I’m very grateful to my English teacher for being supportive.) It really introduced me to queer history and activism and taught me something that I was never actually taught in class. I had to read this in secrecy and with shame and teach myself my own history but I’m so glad I did.
I adored this book and I love Yinka. All the characters in this were great and it’s just a really nice story and a thoroughly pleasurable reading experience.
